School Story:

Just before the school year ended, probably in 1958, we had no exams one day, so Herb and I took off and spent a glorious day at Pymatuning. We came back high on sunshine, adolescence and the prospect of summer, stopped for gas and found that the town was abuzz over a murder/suicide. Judy Barber, who had graduated two or three years ahead of us, had been strangled with a vacuum cleaner cord by her lover, an older man who worked at the post office. He then killed himself, as it was reported. The world seemed not so sunny.

Comments:

Four years at Westminster. Then 2 teaching at Sharon High School. Then four years at Pitt to get a MA and PhD in English. Then 6 years teaching at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Ia. Then a year in Chicago for a post-doc teaching followship at the Newberry Library. Then two years of parenting and part-time teaching in Latrobe, Pa., while wife had primary job as Squibb rep. Then to Atlanta for 20 years where I was editor of several financial trade journals. When I went to free-lance writing, moved to Grand Junction, Colo., where I write, ride my bike and do volunteer work for Hospice.

Suzie,
Misplaced your phone number before I had a chance to call back. Otherwise, dementia is minimal. Great to hear your voice. Hope the reunion was/will be great. If you get this, please send phone number repeatedly until I call you back.
